La leishmaniasis, principalmente cutánea, es endémica en Colombia, donde el reordenamiento de los ciclos de transmisión debido a la intervención humana en zonas selváticas repercute en su propagación. Analizando la distribución del vector en relación con el clima, el uso del suelo y la prevalencia, este estudio constata que los flebótomos, especialmente Lutzomyia gomezi y Psychodopygus panamensis, prevalecen en zonas perturbadas, lo que subraya la necesidad de estrategias de prevención específicas.

La dinámica del comportamiento, en particular las respuestas adaptativas debidas a la concienciación sobre la infección, influyen significativamente en la transmisión de enfermedades. Un marco teórico que integra la teoría de juegos con modelos epidemiológicos revela que una mayor concienciación conduce a una disminución de las tasas de infección en modelos susceptibles-infectados-susceptibles (SIS). Además, la estructura espacial de las redes de contacto influye en los resultados en estado estacionario, lo que indica la importancia de considerar tanto los factores conductuales como los espaciales en la dinámica de la enfermedad.

La epidemiología genómica del SRAS-CoV-2 en el departamento colombiano del Amazonas revela la existencia de dos clusters distintos del virus, lo que indica introducciones independientes, una asociada a la transmisión local y otra a genomas sudamericanos vecinos. Este estudio subraya la importancia de comprender la dinámica de transmisión del virus en poblaciones vulnerables, en particular las comunidades indígenas, y hace hincapié en la necesidad de adoptar medidas específicas de prevención y control de la infección, especialmente a la luz de la aparición de la preocupante variante P.1.

El envenenamiento por mordedura de serpiente, a menudo desatendido, presenta desafíos debido a la falta de notificación, especialmente en regiones donde se prefiere la medicina tradicional o la accesibilidad a la atención sanitaria es limitada. Un novedoso marco que integra la distribución de las serpientes, los niveles de pobreza y el acceso a la atención médica estima que aproximadamente el 10,19% de los casos de mordedura de serpiente en Colombia no se notifican anualmente, sobre todo en las regiones de la Orinoquia y la Amazonia. Este enfoque ofrece una herramienta valiosa para estimar y abordar el subregistro, ayudando en el desarrollo de estrategias de gestión específicas, aunque no sustituye la necesidad de sistemas de vigilancia robustos.
